What transparency obligations are included in the DSA?
Questions & Answer
Transparency is a central theme of the DSA.
The regulation requires platforms to:
Publish annual transparency reports detailing moderation actions, appeals, and enforcement statistics.
Disclose advertising information, including who paid for an ad and why a user was targeted.
Share details of recommendation systems, including options for non-profiling-based feeds.
Report active monthly user numbers to the European Commission.
Provide users with statements of reasons whenever content or accounts are restricted.
For VLOPs and VLOSEs, obligations extend further, including data access for researchers and audit results.
These obligations are designed to give users, regulators, and researchers visibility into how online platforms operate.
