London, UK — November 3rd, 2026
Checkstep, the AI content moderation platform, today announced that it has acquired the Trust & Safety business of Unitary, the London-based AI automation company. The acquisition allows Unitary to dedicate its full attention to its rapidly growing insurance automation business.
The deal brings Unitary's enterprise customers in online marketplaces, gaming and the social creator economy to Checkstep, together with multi-year contracts and the workflows behind each account. Those customers now have one provider for policy management, AI content moderation and compliance reporting, on a platform built to run all three at scale.
Trust & Safety rewards scale
In six months in 2026, platforms filed more than four billion moderation decisions with the EU's DSA Transparency Database, each with a stated reason, and DSA fines have already reached €870 million. Doing Trust & Safety well takes three things at once: AI that applies each platform's own policy, experienced reviewers for the hard cases, and an audit trail a regulator will accept.
Few platforms can build all three in-house, so many piece moderation together from several suppliers. Increasingly, they want one provider with the scale to own the whole outcome.
The deal shows where that scale is building. Unitary is refocusing on insurance automation and chose Checkstep as the long-term home for its Trust & Safety customers. For Checkstep, the deal adds customers, contracts and expertise in its core market in a single move, on a platform that already processes nearly one billion pieces of content a year.
"Unitary started in content moderation, and we're incredibly proud of the technology we've built and the customers we've worked with. As we've expanded into insurance automation, we've seen an enormous opportunity to apply our technology to the industry's complex operational challenges. Focusing fully on that opportunity is an important next step for Unitary, while ensuring our Trust & Safety customers continue to receive the quality and attention they deserve. In Checkstep, we've found a partner with the expertise and commitment to build on what we've achieved, and our teams are working side by side to ensure a seamless transition."

AI and human moderation at scale
The latest AI models can read a platform's own policy and apply it to text, images, audio and video in seconds. But some decisions still need human judgement: context, culture, intent and the edge cases no policy fully anticipates. Checkstep's platform combines the two. Automation decides the clear cases and cites the policy line behind each decision, while ambiguous or high-risk cases go to trained moderators whose decisions feed back into the models. Because Checkstep is model-agnostic, it runs the strongest available model for each harm, language and format, so customers benefit from every new model generation without changing providers.
Bad actors use the same AI tools to mass-produce abuse, probe filters and run fraud: the FBI recorded $893 million in losses from AI-related complaints in 2025, the first year it tracked them. A prompt and a model can flag a post, but they cannot adapt as attackers change tactics or hand a regulator the evidence behind every decision. That takes dedicated software and a team whose only job is Trust & Safety.
Continuity for customers, and more on top
Unitary customers keep their existing contracts, workflows and service levels. The human moderators who know their queues stay on their accounts, and both companies will run each service together during a transition period, so there is no break in service. Customers also gain access to Checkstep's full platform, including human review queues, policy management and Digital Services Act compliance workflows. Checkstep holds both SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, and works with leading platforms including Trustpilot, Daily Mail and JustGiving. The acquisition marks Checkstep's move from startup to scale-up, as it grows its team and invests in its platform and services.
"Trust & Safety is hard, and AI adds complexity: more content, new AI-generated harms, and regulators who expect a reason for every decision. Very few platforms can build the AI, the expert reviewers and the compliance evidence on their own, which is why this market rewards scale. We get stronger with every new model; our customers get a partner that is accountable when things go wrong. I've followed Unitary from day one, when I was at Facebook: they built excellent products and earned the trust of demanding platforms. We're proud to look after their customers, with the same people, the same quality and the added benefit of our full platform."
