🚀 We launched our first Very Large Online Platform (VLOP) with automated reporting to the EU Transparency Database. We’ve now enabled these features for all Checkstep customers for seamless transparency reporting to the EU. This feature is part of Checkstep’s mission to make transparency and regulatory compliance easy for any Trust and Safety team.
What is the EU Transparency Database and why is it important?
As part of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), Very Large Online Platforms are required to share their moderation decisions to the EU’s transparency database with ‘statements of reason’ that explain the reason behind content moderation decisions. This database allows customers to view summary statistics and report on content moderation reasons. You can find the link to the database here.
What exactly did Checkstep launch?
We launched a one-step feature for any customer to input their organization’s EU Transparency Database API token into their settings and automatically report content moderation decisions and statements of reason to the EU database. We started with our client, Shein, and are ready to integrate with the rest of our customers.
For customers using our moderation platform, like Shein is, every moderation decision is associated with a customer’s content policy (e.g. hate speech, terrorism, bullying & harassment, etc.). When moderation decisions are made, Checkstep automatically shares the transparency reporting information with the EU Transparency Database on your behalf. Finally, the policy chosen dictates the statement of reason shared with the EU database.
How else does Checkstep make reporting and compliance easy for Trust & Safety Teams?
We simplify the painful data collection and reporting requirements for moderation transparency and regulatory compliance with its Transparency hub. Therefore, you can manage appeals, publish transparency reports, and export transparency/compliance data simply with Checkstep. Learn more about our DSA workflows here.
